Dear Parent / Guardian.
Welcome to the exciting world of foreign language study! Your child has enrolled in my Spanish class for this semester. The focus of this class is basic survival Spanish. By the end of this course your child will have the ability to read, write, listen to and speak with a native speaker on the following topics in the present, past and future tenses:
Vacations and destinations Foods
Weather Family members
Pastimes Cultural heritage
Sports Professions
Describing people Workplaces
Presentations, group and individual projects, in addition to writing and reading assignments, are only a portion of what your child will be doing in my class. All instructions for these assignments will be given to the student at the beginning of the unit of study.
To obtain the level of proficiency necessary to advance to the next level of language study your student needs to be prepared to work to his / her potential. You can help us with this endeavor by reviewing with your child (Spelling is a major focus!) and providing a quiet place for them to study. If your child needs help in understanding or reviewing the course material I am available after school until 3:45 pm. If this is not convenient, a schedule can be worked out; please contact me and I will find the time to meet with him / her. It is my personal philosophy that every student can master the basic fundamentals of foreign language, if they apply themselves!
Attached you will find a copy of my grading and assignment policies as well as my classroom expectations. At the end of the semester there will be a final exam covering the major topics discussed in class. This will account for 20% of the total course grade.
In order to accomplish our goals in this course your child has been asked to obtain the following materials by Friday, August 4/23:
- A notebook
- Pencils
- Folder
If you have any questions regarding this course, please contact me immediately through the high school office at 659-2185 or [email protected] / [email protected]. We look forward to working with you and your child this semester.
Sincerely,
Spanish Teachers
